The Linux Business Award was jointly organized by Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Hong Kong Linux Industry Association. This award recognizes and rewards those who have provided the innovative solutions, brought the most benefits to the society and obtained great business achievements. The prize giving ceremony was held on July 6, 2005 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

While presenting the prizes at the ceremony, the Acting Executive Director of HKPC, Mr. Edmund Sung, expressed that the contestants of the year 2005 were of very high technology standard and with great creativity. He believed that the developers have got a solid background in applying Linux. The major criteria for assessment include the following:
